Three Men and a Rubber Chicken

When a group of Morris dancers put on a display at John Furniss’s parish church, John got talking to the performers – and the upshot was an invitation to join them. So began 18 years of fun and frolics which took him to France, Germany and Hong Kong as well as many places around England before he moved to a different part of the country in retirement and had to wave a sad goodbye to the bell pads, the baldricks, the sticks and the white hankies. This is his account of the fun and the frolicks.

Schizophrenia Perversion of the Universal Schism

This account of schizophrenia is both ground-breaking and utterly original. The schizophrenia psychosis is analysed from an entirely new viewpoint. The author’s starting point is the Universal Schism, originally a benign and cosmic separation of Opposites, which has been perverted by man into the pathological and endemic dissociation of Opposites manifested as the schizoid disease. This mental dichotomy affects every man, woman and child, not being restricted to hospitalised cases; though in most instances it is not explicitly evident, being essentially unconscious, it is nevertheless devastating to our psychological health, and while people may be consciously whole they are also unconsciously insane. This fact is proved.

Barbel and Roach by Choice

This book is about days spent by the water in pursuit of big fish. That wondrous bronze fighter the barbel, and the silver roach, the traditional favourite from boyhood, are the treasures of our glorious rivers, and the author has been pursuing specimens of both species for more than 40 years, having taken barbel to well into double figures and many big roach. Every aspect of approach and tackle for both species is dealt with in this informative and entertaining book by a highly experienced and successful angler.

A Pocketful of Rainbows

In this, the latest in a series of books written in her husband’s memory, Doreen Kerry continues to look back on a happy marriage that came to an end after just under 35 years when he died unexpectedly, and she maintains unnecessarily, in hospital. In trying to pick up the pieces of her life and put them back together while pursuing justice, she rummages through dusty drawers, cupboards, wardrobes and garage shelves, rekindling memories of past and present in dedication not only to the man she loved and lost but also to her family, and in particular her loving mother and merchant seaman father, who also deserve to take centre stage. A moving trip down memory lane.

An Eccentric Genius

Jim Emerton, an icon of pigeon racing and an intellectual giant whose talents and outspoken views have made him famous far beyond the pigeon world, is a self-confessed legend in his own lifetime. He bred and raced birds for four decades with spectacular success, and now in retirement shares his wisdom freely, in person and in his copious writings, with his many disciples. A natural loner, at times even a recluse who prefers remote seashores and quiet fields to pubs and parties, Jim has known wild times and dark days, exultation and depression, moments of glory and ignominious defeats. Here he looks back on his eclectic life, with contributions and tributes from some of his many admirers.

A Midsummer Night Stream by Mereo Books

From boyhood adventures with roach, perch, pike and trout to encounters with great salmon in wild Welsh rivers and battles with huge sea trout on sultry summer nights, this memoir is a thoughtful journey through a lifetime’s angling, from the earliest beginnings with bent pin and worm to success with big fish and experiences in later life as an angling writer.

It is full of tales to thrill the angler’s blood, along with many intriguing, and often amusing, stories of encounters with other fishermen, but above and beyond that it is an exploration of what fishing is about and what makes the angler tick.

The author describes this entertaining book as ‘a little retrospective self-indulgence… a chance to write about my own experiences and feelings about fishing’.
