Through the Eye of The Storm

Richard Coolen’s journey from teenage apprentice to seasoned sea captain spans oceans, eras, and a lifetime of adventure.

Beginning his maritime career just after World War II aboard tramp ships, he rose to become Master by his thirties, commanding vessels across Hudson Bay, the South Pacific, and beyond.

Later, he brought his seafaring wisdom ashore, holding senior executive roles in the shipping industry and serving as Honorary Consul for both the Netherlands and Germany. His later years were dedicated to the RNLI and its lifesaving lifeboat crews.
