When the untimely death of his father in 1964 put paid to Peter Cole’s plans to join the Army, he decided to take a job in a garage instead. That led to him discovering a talent for selling cars, a skill which carried him to the top of the trade. By his mid-twenties he was selling Rolls Royce limousines to sheikhs and sultans and rubbing shoulders and sipping cocktails with the rich and famous, from Clement Freud and Richard Attenborough to Prince Michael of Kent.
